Halloween Safety Tips
SAFETY TIPS FOR TRICK-OR-TREATERS AND PARENTS
1. Remove all hazards from your property. Remove pots, toys and garden hoses so children won’t trip over them. Restrain pets.
2. Make sure the path to your door is clear, welcome trick-or-treaters with your porch lights and turn on any exterior lights. Parents should check outdoor lights and replace burned-out bulbs.
3. A meal prior to trick-or-treating will discourage eating candy.
4. Try to get your kids to trick-or-treat while it’s still light out.
5. Make sure costumes are flame retardant and choose costumes that are bright and reflective.
6. Keep costumes short to prevent tripping.
7. Masks can obstruct vision. Consider make-up.
8. Carry a flashlight and or glow sticks with you for visibility.
9. Always stay in a group with an adult. Parents should accompany young children.
10. Drive slowly through neighborhoods. Remember children may not look before crossing the street.
11. Remain on well-lit streets and sidewalks
12. Always walk on the sidewalk. If there is no sidewalk, walk on the grass away from the street.
13. Look both ways before crossing the street.
14. Never eat candy until an adult can check it.
